Sometimes those of us in our later years are not able to express ourselves in the right terms even though we have the right idea. For example, a woman may say,
"What's wrong with her?" when she sees someone looking tired or weak in a group.
The person is more likely to be offended than if the older woman had said, "Is there something I can do for you?" to the tired person.
Another approach that has the affect of conveying acceptance or help might be like a friend who offered to help me at the party last night. She offered to help me pull my chair closer so I could hear the conversation of everyone at the table. I felt both included and helped by her kindness.
What a difference our choice of words makes!
I know you would do the same! 😊
